WHAT MAKES MOTHER HUONG’S FOUNDATION?

You’ve heard about the homeless we support, but it’s the people – the staff, the board, the donors, the partners, the volunteers, the ambassadors and our Mother– that make it happen every day.

SHELTER OF LOVE IN THE WORKERS' VILLAGE

Que Huong Humanitarian Center (Tan Dong Hiep ward, Di An town, Binh Duong province) is affectionately known by the people as a loving home, because over the years, this place has taken care of hundreds of people. have a difficult and unhappy situation.

Children who are abandoned, disabled or have incurable diseases are raised and raised from this home. The founder of the center is Huynh Tieu Huong (52 years old) who also had an unhappy childhood but knew how to overcome her fate, sympathized and protected the less fortunate.

Tough childhood

After many appointments, it wasn't until the 4th time that I met Ms. Huynh Tieu Huong because she was constantly busy with child care, welcoming delegations from all over the world. Ms. Huong shared: "I always want to see with my own eyes that my children sleep well and that they wake up to exercise, and have a supervisor to take a nap."

Then she told about the opportunity to form this humanitarian center with a painful connection about her childhood days when she was abandoned, wandering at the beginning of the street, begging for food every day, suffering all kinds of hardships. bitterness and suffering of human fate. She herself did not know what year she was born and what her real age was, it was only when she was adopted by a family of bus drivers running the route from the western provinces to Saigon and made a birth certificate that she had the family's last name Huynh. adoptive father's family, the same year of birth is recorded as a guess. It was in her miserable childhood, without the love of her biological parents, that she had a dream about a bed to sleep in every night, a small house like covered graves that she used to lie on when it rained in the middle of the night. dream, or furthermore, dream of a school, a hospital with a doctor on duty to treat everyone...

She overcame difficulties to earn a living by many occupations such as trading, real estate brokerage, gems, etc., and started bringing home babies left behind to take care of. Later, she met a foreigner and talked about unfortunate children. She received 20 gold trees (in 1987) to get business capital and take them home to take care of them like family. .

The house of a hundred children

From that initial capital, the number of children being raised and cared for by her is increasing day by day, mainly the children of workers living in Binh Duong province. This mother started thinking about establishing a methodical foundation for the children to be cared for, educated, and less unhappy.

In 2001, Que Huong Humanitarian Center was established as a place to live and study for the "big family of Tieu Huong". Remembering the times when she received abandoned children, Ms. Huong confided: "There are children who cannot determine how long they will live because their bodies have had too many injuries due to insect bites, caused by their mothers giving birth by themselves. until the child broke a bone, or was forced to give birth prematurely… At that time, the center staff could only pray and fortunately, until now, most of the children are healthy and obedient." Among hundreds of children here, the most miraculous case is Huynh Tieu Nhu (17 years old), when he was born weighing only 700g, his body was covered with dirt and sand, now he has grown up with quite good physical condition: weighing about approx. 50kg, height 1.7m. Currently, Tieu Nhu has just attended vocational training, studied culture, after school, returned to the center of activities.

This is not the only baby whose life was saved with love and empathy, but there are also 345 other cases with all different circumstances, such as children who are blind, disabled or have illnesses ( HIV, leprosy…) and are entitled to purchase health insurance. The latest case received in 2019 is a girl less than one year old, left in front of the center gate in a state of cold infection, her life is threatened, but after a period of care, she is now healthy. better health.

Up to now, after nearly 20 years of building a loving home, Que Huong Center has had many children who have grown up, grown up and made their own living with hairdressing, massages, working as a worker, with a high income. average 5-7 million VND/month. In particular, there have been at least 60 couples who have become husband and wife. The center has also developed a larger scale (about 1 ha) with many functional areas such as: the school area (from kindergarten to junior high school) has nearly 300 students, of which about 50% are public children. employees, only pay for meals at the rate of 700,000 VND/month; infant area, disabled children area, area for boys, area for girls, green park area, playground area, kitchen area.

This loving shelter has spread widely in the community and attracted the attention of many donors and authorities at all levels. Most recently, Minister of Health Nguyen Thi Kim Tien gave the center 70 million VND, 600 kg of rice and many other gifts to share and encourage orphans and disabled children being raised here. (In the near future, will support necessary medicines for children's health care).
